First road ride: Colorado

Rain showers and heavy legs
The storm hit us halfway through the return trip. Icy drops shocked my arms and my expectation that summer rain ought to be warm. The feeling of cold against my skin when my Texan-brain was telling me I should be hot was exhilarating, and as the water soaked through my clothing, I only felt more alive. I put my head down and drove, however slowly, ignoring each passing bridge that could have provided shelter. Despite aching lungs, a desperate desire for a compact crank and only a vague understanding of how to get back to the house, I could do no less than smile my way through the ride.
I had almost forgotten how beautiful, stress-free and liberating riding a bicycle can be. I can’t wait to hit the nearby trails this weekend.
Bravely representing the motherland: One woman’s quest to prove to Colorado that not all Texans are assholes
An aside: I was a bit disappointed to discover that, unlike oil money remitted to residents of Alaska, Golden-ites are not, in fact, entitled to free beer from the Coors Brewery on a regular basis. Not even one pint per week. Nada. However, it is important to know that I don’t actually like Coors, but a cold Blue Moon from the tap on a warm evening hits the spot, and Coors brews Blue Moon.

Ah yes, rain here is damn cold plus the temps typically drop 10 or more during a storm. I always pack at least a windshell.

Welcome to riding in CO! If you want to have a “guided” tour of some local Mtn or Road bike routes, you might want to check out teamevergreen.org. They have weekly road and mtn group rides. Good way to get introduced to some of the more popular routes in and around the Evergreen area.
